Why do we need bile?

The main cause of gallstones is gallstones. Part of the bile contains 80% cholesterol. If the proportion of cholesterol within the bile increases, or if there is a dysfunction of the bile, the cholesterol precipitation and calcium and some other substances.
Bile facilitates the absorption of fats. Without bile, much of the fat would pass undigested in the stool.
Because most of the bile is made up of cholesterol, bile acids are produced that keep this cholesterol in a dissolved, or liquid, state. If not enough or none of these bile acids are produced, the cholesterol condenses and coagulates with other substances. Gallstones can be caused by increased cholesterol secretion, certain liver disorders, prolonged biliary stasis due to slowed emptying of the gallbladder, or infectious inflammation of the bile ducts.
It is a misconception that eating a regular, fat-free diet can prevent gallstones. The body requires a meal with at least 5 to 10 grams of fat once a day because it stimulates the gallbladder to release bile. If fat intake is drastically reduced, the gallbladder contracts too infrequently and does not release enough bile, increasing the risk of gallstones. Eating more sparingly but more frequently prevents bile from building up in the gallbladder, so eat more frequently and less at the same time.
