The link between stress and bile acids - Video

Expert discussion with Dr Erika Balaicza (doctor, internist, naturopath)

In today's world, a stress-free lifestyle is almost impossible. We are subject to stress when travelling, at work, shopping, at the post office, in our lives, etc.
The choleric or bilious person is commonly believed to be angry, suddenly out of control. This popular saying also refers to the negative effect of stress on the bile secretion, as bile is transported to the duodenum through a duct called the Vater's papilla. However, when stressed, the smooth muscle part of the duct contracts and spasms, causing the mucus in the duct to constrict, preventing the bile from reaching the right place to be used.
So avoid sitting down to eat when you're under stress, because even though enough bile is produced, it doesn't reach the duodenum and doesn't break down fat properly.
