Bile acids
Bile acids are thus produced by the liver by "breaking down" or converting cholesterol, thus ridding the body of excess cholesterol, which is now truly harmful. The bile acids thus formed help to increase the direct excretion of cholesterol from the liver into the intestine, part of which is reabsorbed and the rest, naturally, leaves the body in the faeces.
Consequently, if the liver produces less bile acid (bile) - a major cause of which is stagnant, poorly draining bile, or less bile-producing liver in the absence of bile-forming foods - then less cholesterol is converted to bile acid and more excess cholesterol remains in the body, which is a factor in the development of atherosclerosis.
