Newsletter 40: The history of GALLMET capsules

Sometime in the 1950s, Magdolna Mészkay, a pharmacist, wanted to help her mother when she started experimenting with a bile disease treatment. The remedy, made from herbs and bile acids, not only cured her mother, but spread the word across the country. Magdi's pills also attracted interest from abroad. Thousands of letters from grateful patients proved the effectiveness of the pill.
Since Magdolna was a pharmacist and did not want to practice quackery, she began the ordeal of obtaining official licensing in the mid-1960s. In official forums she was encouraged to collect as many testimonials as possible from cured patients. Nearly 10,000 letters - including hundreds of medical certificates - were considered sufficient evidence, but at that time in Hungary, due to scarce financial and research resources, such processes were very slow. In the 1980s, the Innofinance Institute found the certificates sufficient to deal with the issue in a meaningful way, but when it became a bank, it no longer provided support for inventors.
Finally, Antal Miklós Várhalmi - the founder and product developer of GALLMED Ltd. - took up the cause, as he was also among the patients whose problems had eased. Between 1992 and 1995, he went through the arduous path of licensing and registration, until in 1996 the GALLMED tablet appeared as a therapeutic product.

Areas of action of GALLMED tablets:
- Reducing and eliminating complaints related to bile production and bile duct dysfunction:
- increase bile excretion, promote bile secretion,
- reducing the risk of gallstones,
- alleviation or elimination of complaints due to bile duct dysfunction after gall bladder removal - Reduction and elimination of digestive complaints, with particular attention to (stomach) overload.
Dealing with bowel complaints (irregular, hard stools, etc.) (bowel control) - Beneficial influence on cholesterol levels.
Research by Professor Lóránd Dr Bertók and Dr Péter Légrády
These two experts, their research and publications have contributed greatly to the success of GALLMED tablets.
Dr. Lóránd Bertók conducted experiments with bile acids in the 1960s, during which he discovered that bile acids, beyond fat digestion, play an essential physiological role in detoxifying the large quantities of endotoxins produced by intestinal bacteria. He named this phenomenon "physico-chemical" defense and discovered that bile acid deficiency may be linked to allergies and the development of psoriasis. Through his research work, he became a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the American Biographical Institute selected him as one of the 500 greatest geniuses, and at one point, he was even a Nobel Prize nominee.
Dr. Péter Légrády, through his research on bile acids and cholesterol, determined that chronic allergic and joint diseases can be linked to liver-bile functions and bile acid deficiency in almost all cases. Setting the appropriate cholesterol level is critically important for every patient. Moreover, in some cases, he has also confirmed the connection between bile function and migraine. He summarized his research in the Egg Book.
GALLMET food supplements
By the early 2000s, sourcing of raw materials had become difficult, so further production ceased. A decade later, when Hungary became a member of the EU, it was again possible to source raw materials and GALLMET capsules were introduced as a food supplement. Since then, tens of thousands of people have again experienced the beneficial effects of bile acids for bile problems. In addition to the herbal capsule (Mix), a pure bile acid capsule (Natural) was also produced, but now also available in a digestive enzyme supplement (Extra).
In addition, GALLMET products have been launched in other areas of action, such as Heart Plus (circulation), Immune (infection prevention) capsules and vitamin products, which will soon be further expanded.
GALLMET products are available in ALL Hungarian pharmacies and herbal shops or can be ordered!
