How do gallbladder polyps and gallstones develop?
If a person has bile leakage disorder for a long time, biliary stone formation can start. Initially, bile polyps form on the gallbladder wall, and as the stagnant bile fluid builds up on these, small and then larger gallstones form. Biliary polyps are often initially asymptomatic.
The main symptoms of gallstones:
- bloating,
- crampy stomach, bile spasm
- pain under the right rib cage,
- stabbing pain radiating into the back
- diarrhoea or constipation.

Which gallstones are suitable for gallstone dissolution?
It is mainly cholesterol-containing stones that can be dissolved. These are recognisable by the fact that they are not visible on X-rays taken without contrast material (the X-ray beam is transmitted), but are clearly visible on ultrasound. Floating stones are particularly suitable for lithotripsy.
Further rules for chemical bile leaching:
- the size of the stone should not exceed 1-2 cm;
- the stone should be smaller than half the size of the gallbladder;
- a well-functioning gallbladder: it should be able to contract strongly when you eat;
- the bile ducts must be free of stones and freely passable;

- It is also common in women during pregnancy. It is also affected by lifestyle and diet.
- Too little water consumption, 2-3 liters of non-carbonated water per day is recommended.
- Most often, it can be caused by excessive fat consumption. So being overweight and having high cholesterol levels also predisposes people to gallstones.
- In other cases, it otherwise develops in dieters because they don't eat enough fatty, oily foods, which stimulate the gallbladder to produce enough bile.
