What does the relationship between the immune system and bile look like?
70% of the immune system is located in the large intestine. Bile is first excreted into the duodenum and then into the small intestine. As well as being a fat solvent, it has a powerful bactericidal and antiviral effect, which is important because stomach acid does not destroy all of it, so uninfected food is passed into the intestines. This sterilisation is done by bile.
