Any process that causes bile stasis, such as reduced fluid intake, prolonged loss of fluids, diarrhoea, regular consumption of high-fat foods, is also more likely to cause gallstones.

The main symptoms of gallstones are bloating, fullness, nausea, abdominal pressure and bile spasms of varying duration.

These symptoms can be relieved by bitter herbs which dilute bile so they thus promoting its emptying, and also help the production of digestive enzymes and thus relieve the symptoms of gallstones.

Biliary complaints can basically be relieved by bile acids, or in the case of cholesterol stones smaller than 15 mm (soft gallstones), if bile acid is administered for a longer period (at least 3-6 months), these stones may decrease in size and reach a size where they spontaneously clear or dissolve completely.
