Newsletter 4: Folate or folic acid? Maybe you're not taking the right one? 🤔

more than 100 diseases have been identified that are associated with elevated blood homocysteine levels

Folate and folic acid are different forms of vitamin B9

Although there is a distinct difference between the two and their physiological effects are different, even professionals often use their names interchangeably.

Folate is a natural form of vitamin B9 and an essential nutrient, most commonly found in leafy greens 🥬 contain it, while folic acid is a synthetic form of vitamin B9 form.

Low folate levels are associated with a number of health risks, including:

  • birth defects (open spine),
  • an increased risk of cancer,
  • elevated levels of homocysteine, which has been linked to more than 100 diseases, including (stroke and thrombosis), atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction, dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Approximately 50% of the population have difficulty processing folic acid and it can even accumulate in the body. And high levels of unprocessed folic acid have been linked to a number of health problems, yet it is used in many multivitamins and supplements.

We decided not to use the much cheaper folic acid, but instead added folate, a natural vitamin B9, to GALLMET Heart+Blood capsules, which the body can use immediately.

The GALLMET team wishes you good health!
