Aid digestion: one of the most important functions of bile acids is to break down fats: they break down oil and fat into small particles. It also activates lipase, a fat-breaking enzyme that speeds up the breakdown and absorption of fats and oils in the body.

Intestinal inflammation and gut flora imbalance: lack of bile acids causes fats to break down by putrefaction, which in the long term can lead to inflammation and an imbalance in the gut flora.
